Extracorporeal Shockwave Therapy (ESWT)

COMING SOON!

What is Extracorporeal Shockwave Therapy?

Extracorporeal Shockwave Therapy (ESWT) is a non-invasive medical procedure that uses high-energy sound waves to treat various musculoskeletal conditions.

The shockwaves help to promote tissue healing and regeneration, stimulate blood flow to the area, reduce pain, and break up scar tissue and calcifications.

ESWT is generally considered safe and well tolerated, with minimal side effects. During the treatment, a handheld device delivers shockwaves to the skins surface in the vicinity of the injured or painful area. The intensity and frequency of the shockwaves an be adjusted based on the specific condition being treated.

While shockwave therapy can be effective for many conditions, its suitability and effectiveness may vary depending on individual factors. Your specific condition will be assessed to determine if shockwave therapy is a suitable treatment option for you.

What can Shockwave Therapy treat?

1: Plantar Fasciitis:

ESWT is commonly used as a non-invasive treatment option for plantar fasciitis, a condition characterised by inflammation and pain in the plantar fascia, the tissue that connects the heel bone to the toes

2: Achilles Tendinopathy:

ESWT can be effective in treating Achilles Tendinopathy, which is the degeneration or inflammation of the Achilles tendon. It is commonly used as a conservative treatment before considering more invasive options like surgery.

3: Medial Tibial Stress Syndrome (Shin Splints):

Shockwave therapy has been used in the treatment of medial tibial stress syndrome, commonly known as shin splints. It helps in reducing pain and promoting healing of the affected area.

4: Patella Tendinopathy (Jumper’s knee):

ESWT can also be used as a treatment for patella tendinopathy, a condition characterised by inflammation and pain in the patella tendon, which connects the kneecap to the shinbone.

5: Greater Trochanteric Pain Syndrome (Hip Bursitis): Shockwave therapy may be beneficial for the treatment of hip bursitis, specifically greater trochanteric pain syndrome. It targets the inflamed bursa and helps relieve pain.
